Safe Space/Floor Coordinator
p:ear builds positive relationships with homeless and transitional youth through education, art and recreation to affirm personal worth and create more meaningful and healthier lives.

POSITION TITLE: Safe Space Coordinator
1 FTE: 8am – 4pm requires occasional evenings and weekends
COMPENSATION: $42,500. Benefits include paid vacation, health, 2% Simple IRA match, short-term disability, 8 paid sick days
Safe Space Coordinator will serve as a positive adult role model for youth accessing p:ear, with an emphasis on respect and commitment, and will be active in contributing to daily operations and routines of the program. 70% of Safe Space Coordinator time will be spent working directly with youth, 30% of time will be spent on administrative, organization and housekeeping tasks.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / COMPETENCIES
•Experience building trusting, healthy relationships with young people
•Commitment to advancing equity and inclusion and creating and maintaining a diverse environment
•Excellent interpersonal skills. Must be a positive and strong role model, have a collaborative, team-oriented work style, and strong strategic and problem-solving skills
•Committed to non-violence and compassionate responses
•Cultural Competence: Awareness of one’s own cultural identity, an understanding of difference and an excitement about building relationships cross-culturally
•Ability to learn and build on the varying cultural and community norms of p:ear youth and the p:ear community
•Strong written, oral and online communication skills
•Committed to personal growth
•Self-initiating, independent and highly motivated
•Comfortable working with minimal supervision in a deadline-oriented environment
•Capacity to thrive amidst chaos, juggle competing priorities and responsibilities, and work calmly in a fast paced and stressful environment
•Able to work occasional nights, weekends, and holidays
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Create a safe, supportive, structured environment for youth (70%)
•Develop healthy, mentoring relationships with youth
•Provide direct support, mentoring and assistance to p:ear youth
•Participate in daily activities and projects with youth
•Organize and facilitate workshops
•Together with other staff, prepare the facility each morning, clean and organize at end of work day
•Support program unity by participating in a team approach
•Work with other staff to support the general needs of the program and seek interdisciplinary opportunities for learning
•Maintain appropriate boundaries
•Develop positive, respectful relationships with volunteers, staff, and local business owners
•Abide by all policies and procedures
2. Manage resource & referral services
•Manage and grow p:ear’s resource & referral service which connects kids with critical social service agencies; private market community supporters such as dentists, hair stylists, optometrists etc.; and the fundamental finances and paperwork to obtain birth certificates, ID’s, food handlers’ cards, social security cards, rental assistance, and other fundamental finances and paperwork as necessary.
3. Administrative/Organizational Support (30%)
•Actively participate in fundraising events at p:ear
•Represent p:ear in the community
•Participate in weekly staff meetings and monthly in-service
•Manage Safe Space budget
•Write monthly Safe Space Program Report and get to Program Director on time
•Enter and manage youth enrollment forms and youth statistics
•Write thank you notes, cards, etc. to volunteers and donors
•Organize and maintain Safe Space storage areas
4. Manage & organize all in-kind donations
•Track, process and organize all in-kind donations
•Work with staff to solicit program in-kind donations
